There's always plenty to do at the Douglas Jacobson State Veterans Home!
Part of remaining healthy is staying active and socially connected with others. All of our
facilities provide therapeutic activity programs to maintain each resident’s quality of life.
Tailored to each individual’s needs and interests, our activity departments plan and facilitate
fun and energizing activities. These activities include:
• Group exercise
• Music activities
• Birthday Parties
• Community outings in the facility vans
• Additional activities designed for the residents' enjoyment.
Activities and programs at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Home are provided to
promote physical skills and social interaction, as well as increase each resident's emotional
well-being. Recreational, cultural, and intellectual activities are planned on a daily basis for
both individuals and large groups. The activities are based around the interests and
capabilities of the residents.
Residents, staff, and families participate in community events such as the Charlotte
County Air Show, Punta Gorda Muscle Car Museum, Veterans and Memorial Day
remembrances, and much more. Participation in holiday celebrations and activities is
encouraged. Throughout the year, special parties are planned that involve family members
We offer a resident council which encourages residents to participate in the governing of
each facility. It ensures residents' input into quality of life issues as they pertain to individual
and group interests and concerns.
Volunteers play a very important part in the success of planned activities and outings. Our
volunteer program includes individuals from community organizations, schools, churches,
and other veterans' organizations.
Donations made to the Doug Jacobson Veterans Fund, Inc. play an integral role in the overall
success of these events and activities. It's a way for the citizens of our country to keep its
covenant with veterans by means of a public-private partnership. Your donations are greatly
